The buffaloes

The buffalo breeding of the Iemma company in the Cioffi locality of Eboli (SA) has been certified among “Wellbeing Farms” – buffalo supply chain for production standards and compliance with the respective regulations. Another important achievement reached through the extensive work carried out in the company to ensure our customers and consumers a SAFE – SUSTAINABLE – ETHICAL supply chain.

In the farm, approximately 1000 head of Italian Mediterranean buffalo are fed with fresh, hayed, and silaged forage exclusively produced on the company’s land, covering a total area of 260 hectares all in the Sele Plain, among the municipalities of Battipaglia, Eboli, and Capaccio – Paestum (province of Salerno).

A recent collaboration between the Iemma company and the University of Naples Federico II has demonstrated that by incorporating a high percentage of fresh forage into the buffalo’s diet, the result is milk that not only imparts unique and pleasant sensory characteristics to mozzarella but also regulates the correct ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, with well-known health benefits.

In the company, choices regarding shelter and milking solutions have been made to ensure the respect for animal welfare and the highest milk hygiene standards.
